Seeks Peace With Turkey, Erdogan Attacks Zionism

nuclear Iran or Zionist, democratic Israel?

There
was a time when the most popular holiday resort choice for Israelis
was Turkey.
Today, Turkey would be very low on the list of destinations for
Jews and Israelis to visit. The Turkish government, under the
rule of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has turned extremely
hostile towards Israel in order to secure the Islamic vote and
appease Islamic terrorists from attacking the Erdogan government.
Recently,
Israel has reached out to normalize relations with Turkey. Israel
sent messages to Ankara over the last two weeks that it was interested
in creating a more positive dynamic in its stressed
relationship with Turkey so that the two nations can work together
to further common interests, Israeli government officials said.
The messages
were sent prior to US Secretary of State John Kerrys maiden
trip abroad, a trek that will take him to nine countries in 10
days, including Turkey. The official would not say whether a recent
decision by the Israel defense firm Elta to deliver to Turkey's
defense ministry $100 million of equipment for four Airborne Warning
and Control System (AWACS) was one of these positive overtures
or whether an Israeli proposal earlier this month to construct
a natural gas pipeline through Turkey to Europe an offer
left without a response from Turkey was an effort to create
a positive atmosphere.
Turkey
and Israel are two countries that have a long history of warm
and solid relations. Sharing common enemies, both Israel and Turkey
are threatened by Iran and Syria. Although the rhetoric in the
political arena may give a different impression, the bond between
the Turkish and Israeli people remains very strong.
But
doing all he can to break this bond and create even more instability
in the Middle East is Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan. While
speaking at a UN forum yesterday, Erdogan called Zionism a "crime
against humanity" likening it with anti-Semitism, fascism,
and Islamophobia. Erdogan was addressing a Vienna forum of the
Alliance of Civilizations, a UN framework for West-Islam dialogue.
UN Watch urged
UN chief Ban Ki-moon who was present on the stage yet remained
silent to speak out and condemn the speech. It also called on
Erdogan to apologize. "We remind secretary-general Ban Ki-moon
that his predecessor Kofi Annan recognized that the UN's 1975
Zionism-is-racism resolution was an expression of anti-Semitism,
and he welcomed its repeal," UN Watch stated.
Jerusalem
issued the following communication today: "Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu sharply condemns Turkish Prime Minister Recep
Tayyip Erdogan's statement about Zionism and its comparison to
fascism."
"This
is a dark and mendacious statement the likes of which we thought
had passed from the world," said Netanyahu.
Erdogan, who
supported the Flotilla
to Gaza PR stunt which resulted in the so called "peaceful"
Turks attacking the Israelis who boarded the Mavi Marmara vessel
outside of Gaza, is trying to have his cake and eat it. The cake
is having the support of Islamic Jihadists while working with
NATO.
It's time
for Erdogan to decide if he is on the side of Islamic terror or
Western democracy.
Kerry is about
to enjoy the nightmares with Erdogan that Netanyahu has suffered
from. We look forward to seeing and hearing their joint press
conference as they conclude their upcoming handshakes and security
briefings on Iran's attempt to produce a nuclear weapon. The world
will soon discover which Erdogan deems worse - a nuclear weapon
aimed at his country by Iran or peace and commerce with Zionist,
democratic Israel and the West.
