was forwarded by the Israel Government Press Office to the Israel
News Agency.
Israel FM
Avigdor Liberman today stated that no report links Israel to the
death of Hamas Islamic terrorist Mahmoud al-Mabhouh.
Israel Deputy
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Liberman met today
in Brussels with Irish Foreign Minister Michea'l Martin. In response
to FM Martin's question regarding the death of the terrorist Mahmoud
al-Mabhouh, FM Liberman stated that no report links Israel to
the incident. The Israel Foreign Minister added that if alternate
information, beyond media reports, would emerge, then Israel would
respond. However, as no such further information has been presented,
there is no need to relate to the matter.
Israel FM
Liberman stated that many false accusations are made against Israel
on numerous issues, and there is a general Arab tendency to blame
Israel for everything, adding that there are many internal struggles
in non-democratic countries and organizations in the Middle East.
Another Israel
minister told a meeting at the House of Commons in London yesterday
that the Dubai killing should not be regarded as a murder.
Yuli Edelstein,
Israel public diplomacy minister, told a meeting of a political
think tank that it would be wrong to become overly emotional.
Even
if it will turn out that the worst secret service of the worst
country in the world had managed to get to that guy, I will still
not call it murder, he said.
The Hamas
terrorist Mahmoud al Mabhouh was killed or died from natural causes
in his hotel room in Dubai on January 19. Last Monday Dubai Police
broadcast closed-circuit TV and surveillance video footage of
an alleged hit-squad who carried out the alleged killing, and
named 11 suspects six with British passports, three Irish,
one French and one German.
Prior to his
meeting with FM Martin, FM Liberman met with Spanish Foreign Minister
Miguel Moratinos. The two ministers discussed the upgrading of
relations between Israel and the European Union. FM Liberman stated
that the upgrade should not be linked to the negotiations with
the Palestinians.
Earlier this
morning, FM Liberman met with Romania Foreign Minister Teodor
Baconschi, and discussed bilateral issues and economic relations
between the two nations, as well as the upgrading of Israel's
relationship with the European Union. At the meeting, FM Liberman
stated that should Iran acquire nuclear capabilities, the result
for the Middle East would be devastating, primarily for Iran's
neighbors. Any attempt to appease Ahmadinejad and the violent
and cruel Iran regime would be a terrible mistake. FM Liberman
said that we are at a critical point where a Churchillian-type
leadership rather than a Chamberlainian-type leadership is required.
FM Liberman
met with the Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Jan Kohout,
and heard his account of his recent visit to Damascus, Syria and
Lebanon. The two agreed that FM Kohout would visit Israel in May.
FM Liberman
also met with Bulgaria Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov, and
discussed bilateral issues, upgrading the relationship between
Israel and the European Union, as well as other issues.
FM Liberman
is expected to attend additional meetings in Brussels today.
Many in Israel
believe that the Mossad was not involved in the killing of al
Mabhouh.
One security
analyst in Israel said that the Mossad would never expose 11 agents
to CCTV.
"Much
evidence points to al Mabhouh being killed by Fatah or other rival
Palestinian organizations," the analyst said. "Many
question as to why Europe would shed tears over an advocate of
Islamic Jihad and even expressed curiosity as to what passports
are now being used by UK MI6, the DGSE in France and the BND in
Germany during their covert operations.
"It appears
that the international secret service organizations of many nations
in Europe whose sole task is the protection of their citizens
and the survival of their democracies are now at odds with their
own Foreign Ministries".
