----- July 23, 2008 ....... Only a day after Jerusalem, Israel
suffered a terrorist attack by a Palestinian using a tractor
to injure over 16 civilians and a week after a similar attack
by a Palestinian terrorist murdered three people, the Israel
Security Cabinet met to discuss a global Jihad (Holy War) to
the region.
In
a communication from the Israel Prime Minister's Office and
the Israel Government Press Office to the Israel News Agency,
the Israel Security Cabinet announced that it had met to discuss
the Global Jihad (Islamic Holy War) threat to the region. Ministers
received extensive briefings from Israel Defense Forces Intelligence,
Israel Security Agency and Mossad officials.
The
communication stated: "It arose in the discussion that
Global Jihad organizations, led by Al Qaida, pose significant
threats to the State of Israel, to Israel citizens and to Jews
around the world. The aforesaid intelligence officials noted
that Global Jihad constitutes a threat to the Western world,
to democratic regimes and to moderate Arab elements, and added
that there is concern that Global Jihad will cooperate with
extremist elements in the region such as Hezbollah and Hamas."
The
Israel Security Cabinet statement added: "It further arose
that Global Jihad elements are utilizing civilian infrastructures,
such as the Internet and information transfer technologies to
coordinate, recruit and operate terrorists. Israel Prime Minister
Ehud Olmert instructed the aforesaid officials to continue their
information-gathering and counter-terrorism efforts while coordinating
with additional countries that are partners in the war on terrorism."
Just
yesterday, a Palestine terrorist who had been working on road
works crashed his tractor into oncoming traffic and hit a bus
and three cars.
Israel
police stated that 16 people were injured in the terror attack.
The
terror attack took place in central West Jerusalem, near the
King David hotel where US presidential candidate Barack Obama
is staying tonight during a visit to the Middle East.
Israel
police have described the event as a "terror attack".
Jerusalem
Mayor Uri Lupolianski who was nearby when the incident took
place said: "They keep on inventing ways to attack innocent
civilians. Every work tool has become a weapon."
In
related news, an elite Israel border (MAGAV) policeman who was
shot in the head in a terror attack earlier this month outside
the walls of Jerusalem's Old City died of his wounds today.
"A
border policeman passed away from wounds he received from a
terrorist attack," said police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.
Following
these recent Islamic terror attacks Israel has begun to implement
new security measures in mostly Arab east Jerusalem, including
a return to destroying the homes of Islamic terrorists.
