--- February 17, 2012 .... Israel's Counter-Terrorism Bureau is
urging Israelis in Europe, North and South America, the Caribbean
and in Asia to proceed with extreme caution following information
provided by interrogation of suspects from Iran apprehended after
an attempted Bangkok terror bombing.
Speaking
to reporters on Friday, a top official at the Israel
Counter Terrorism Bureau indicated that an investigation of
nationals from Iran who were apprehended following the attempted
Bangkok Islamic terror bombing indicated that more terror attacks
against Israeli citizens and Jewish institutions were active.
"I
call on Israelis abroad to show awareness and take basic steps
to reduce possible harm," the official said, adding that
they should "take note of suspicious objects and refrain
from taking packages from strangers" and "be attentive
to the directives of local security forces." The security
official stated that breaking routine schedules was now a priority.
The
Israel Foreign Ministry has issued a travel warning advising Israeli
nationals to exercise caution going to Thailand.
And
inside Israel the Israel Police have raised the alert level nationwide.
This could mean that Iranian sleeper units in Israel may have
also been activated.
A
respected Israeli security analyst, Gil, has told the Israel
News Agency that the Mossad,
Israel's secret service, now had information which enables them
to track many of the terror teams that Iran has dispatched worldwide.
"The
Mossad has a very wide umbrella and is able to penetrate Islamic
terror cells where others cannot. As a result of investigations
after the attempted bombings in India, Thailand and Georgia, they
now have a direct fix on where and who these teams are. In addition
to welcoming these teams before they head home to Iran, we should
see a few surprises occurring in Iran. Stuxnet, Stars and other
past missions were nothing compared to what is now in place."
The
security analyst stated that all of Israel's INTEL divisions were
very well focused and cooperating with several other INTEL organizations
in the US, South America, Europe and Asia.
"I
call on Israelis abroad to show awareness and take basic steps
to reduce possible harm," the official said, adding that
they should "take note of suspicious objects and refrain
from taking packages from strangers" and "be attentive
to the directives of local security forces."
The security official stated that breaking routine schedules
was now a priority.
The
US has warned local police forces to be on higher alert for possible
attacks against Jewish and Christian institutions. These terror
warnings have been given high priority to cities like LA with
large Iranian communities and New York with its large Jewish community.
Western
intelligence organizations believe that Iran has been secretly
deploying its INTEL forces so it could retaliate against American
and Israeli targets around the world and on US soil. Many think
that Iran does not see Israel as a primary front. Iran has been
actively engaged in fighting US and allied forces in Iraq and
Afghanistan, and is now rushing to the aid of the Syria government
and President Bashar Assad. On the Israel front, Iran has focused
mainly on arming Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Hamas continues to fire
rockets from Gaza into Israel cities and towns.
Mark
Regev, spokesman for Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu, said that
Iran and Hizbollah had proved this week that they have the capability
to strike targets across the globe, posing a "serious threat"
to Israeli security.
Israel's warning of further terror attacks comes one day after
Hassan Nasrallah, the Hizbollah leader, issued a video statement
denying that his organization was involved in any of the terror
attacks.
.
IDF Colonel Ephraim Kam, deputy head of the Institute for National
Security Studies in Israel, said that neither Iran nor Hizbollah
would confirm their responsibility for any attacks.
"They never do," he said. "The attacks on the Israeli
embassies are a clear message from Iran that Israel should stop
killing its nuclear scientists or else Israelis will start getting
hurt."
Both Iran and Hizbollah operate through international networks
established by Shia Muslims living in Europe, South America and
Asia. Iran also uses diplomatic channels and its network of embassies
to transfer arms and messages, said Col. Kam.
"Israel will see less surprises as the leadership of Iran
and Hizbollah will soon have difficulty finding their underwear.
Make no mistake about it that Israel wants peace and the people
of Iran should and will know it," says Gil. "But the
present regime in Iran is doing all they can to develop nuclear
weapons which will be aimed beyond Israel and at neighboring Arab
League states and nations in Europe. Global democracies do not
any longer have the luxury of waiting for sanctions to solve all
issues."
Iran
recently attempted to assassinate the Saudi Arabia ambassador
in Washington. A man with dual Iran US citizenship contacted someone
in Mexico City known to have connections with a Mexican drug cartel
in order to hire cartel assassins to carry out the plot.
The plan fell apart because the contact in Mexico turned out to
be an undercover American agent.
US Attorney
General Eric Holder later announced that the attack on the Saudi
Ambassador was ordered by the highest levels in Tehran. Two weeks
ago, US Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said explicitly
that Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, was suspected in the
murder plot.
"The
world is facing another Hitler," says Israel Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu, and this moment of decision is almost the
same to the eve of World War II. Iran is a threat to Israel and
"a real danger to humanity as a whole," says Israel
President Shimon Peres.
But
now, for many in Israel, Iran's actions have become a personal
thing, transcending politics.
"It's
one thing to go after Israel's Mossad agents and uniformed IDF
soldiers, it's a completely another thing to target the families
of Israel's diplomats. That crosses all borders."
