Jerusalem, Israel --- July 8, 2011 .... The Odessa International Literary Festival (or "Isaak Babel Festival") is dedicated to the South Russian (or Odessa) school of writing - a unique phenomenon in the history of Russian letters that produced such great writers and poets as Isaak Babel, Yuri Olesha, Eduard Bagritzky, Ilya Ilf, Valentin Katayev and many other world-famous names.

The festival will open July 9 and will be attended by many prominent cultural figures including writers, directors and composers from the US, Russia, Israel, France, Germany, Georgia, and several other nations in Europe.
.
At the closing date of the festival, July 13, a monument to Isaak Babel will be unveiled in the center of the city, commemorating the author who put Odessa on the literary map.

The Michael Cherney Foundation is helping writers in Israel to attend this historical, cultural event and represent Babel's Jewish homeland, whose rebirth he missed by just a few years.

The Michael Cherney Foundation, offers assistance to new arrivals (Olim), victims of catastrophes and Islamic terrorism that continue to bleed Israel, as well as to the low-income victims of terror in other countries.

Another equally important mission assumed by the Michael Cherney Foundation is its effective and comprehensive media effort in the war against terror.
