Jerusalem ----September 26...... The following was communicated
by the Israel Defense Forces and the Israel Government Press
Office to the Israel News Agency.
In
light of the significant terror threat during the Jewish holiday
of Sukkot, and according to the decision of the Israel Minister
of Defense, a general closure will be implemented in the regions
of Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip during the holiday period.
The closure will begin midnight, early Wednesday, September
26th 2007, and will be lifted in accordance with security assessments.
For
the duration of the closure, the passage of those in need of
humanitarian aid as well as doctors, medical personnel, religious
workers, N.G.O. members, teachers, lawyers and additional professional
groups will be authorized by the District Coordination and Liaison
offices. In addition, 1,600 Palestinians will be authorized
to pass from Judea and Samaria into Israel for the olive harvest.
Currently,
the Erez crossing is not open for journalists.
As
for Judea and Samaria, the closure will have no effect on the
movement of journalists, who are reminded to coordinate their
passage in advance with the IDF Spokesperson's News Desk, while
ensuring that their G.P.O. credentials, passports and visas
are valid. Media personnel with Israel or dual citizenship are
required to sign release forms prior to visiting the "A"
areas.
The
IDF regards the holiday period as a highly sensitive time from
a security standpoint. Due to this fact, the IDF will enhance
its alertness to ensure the safety of the citizens of Israel,
while preserving, to the best of its ability, the daily life
of the Palestinian population which is not involved in terror.
