York, New York --- November 30, 2011 .... The Sixth Annual Dror
for the IDF Wounded Foundation Benefit is rapidly approaching.
The event will take place on Thursday, December 1 2011, from 7:30
PM to 11:30 PM at Benrimon Contemporary in New York City.
The Dror for the Israel Defense Forces Wounded Foundation is an
organization that provides financial assistance and social support
to severely wounded soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces. The
organization was founded by IDF veteran Dror Dagan, after he was
severely wounded on a mission to arrest a terrorist, leaving Dror
paralyzed from the waist down.
Dror
required a life-saving operation that the Israel government initially
would not fund. The Israel Ministry of Defense (MOD) does an excellent
job providing support for the wounded warriors of the IDF. However,
often these injuries lead to financial and other problems beyond
what the MOD can cover. Thus, the Foundation's purpose is to supplement
government services that are currently being provided by evaluating
each soldier's individual and specific needs.
Dror
had to come up with over $300,000 on his own to fund the surgery.
While he was recovering, Dror made a vow to do something for other
wounded IDF soldiers to minimize the difficulties they face during
injury and recovery. He founded Dror for the Wounded in Israel
in 2005 for this purpose.
Israel Ambassador Haim Waxman will speak at the event regarding
threats to Israel and the need to support the Israel Defense Forces
wounded veterans. Ambassador Waxman is a career diplomat and has
been serving as Israel's Deputy Permanent Representative to the
United Nations since August 16, 2010.
The annual Dror for the IDF Wounded benefit in New York City draws
a large crowd of single young professionals in their upper 30s,
and 40s, but also draws many older professionals. The formal cocktail
evening will feature live music, Mediterranean hors d' oeuvres,
Israeli wines, and an inspirational atmosphere. The evening promises
to be meaningful and fun for those in attendance.
Money raised that evening will go towards providing wounded soldiers
with services not funded by the Israel government or any other
agency. This year's focus has been a hand-driven bicycle team
for 6 paraplegic IDF veterans. Tickets can be purchased now for
$125 by going to dror2011.eventbrite.com
or at the door for $150. For further details or to inquire about
sponsorship opportunities, please contact Sheeri@drorfoundation.org.
