Jerusalem
--- October 23, 2008...... The Cherney family has announced
that a new section for recovering patients in the cardiology
wing at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, Israel has started
operations this week.
Petah
Tikva is an eastern suburb of Tel Aviv.
Lev
Cherney (Chernoy) said that the new private hospital rooms are
designed to stabilize the physical and psychological well being
of the patients. The hospital rooms are equipped with personal
showers, bathrooms, 19 inch TVs and writing tables.
This
donation was made possible by a generous contribution by the
brothers of Michael Cherney.
Michael
Cherney spends much of his time as a philanthropist - serving
as the director of the Michael
Cherney Foundation.
The
Michael Cherney Charity Foundation was created on June 1, 2001,
on the night of the Islamic terrorist bombing at the Dolphinarium
Disco in Tel Aviv. When Michael Cherney learned the number of
victims - twenty one dead and over 150 wounded, he realized
that rendering assistance required a systematic organized effort.
This was the genesis of the Foundation.
Prior
to 2001, Mr. Cherney was engaged in charity work in Russia,
Ukraine, Central Asia, Bulgaria, the US - wherever he did business.
He made especially valuable contribution into Jewish philanthropy
in Russia.
Following
the Dolphinarium tragedy, the Cherney Fund became the helping
hand for all the victims.
In a misfortune like this, emigres from the former Soviet countries
are even worse off than the Israel born: they don't have a support
system or savings. The Cherney Fund, therefore, renders help
mostly to the new arrivals, victims of catastrophes and terrorist
acts that continue to bleed Israel, as well as to the low-income
victims of terror in other countries.
Another
equally important task assumed by the Cherney Foundation is
the media effort in war on terror. Shortly after the Dolphinarium
attack, the Foundation published a book called Dolphinarium:
Terror Targets the Young. The book is an oral history, a representation
of the voices of the parents who lost their children and the
teenager victims themselves. It was published in three languages
and met with acclaim in Israel, the United States, and Russia.
The
Fund's contribution into conveying the truth about the war of
terror against the Jewish people has met with high appreciation
from the media, public organizations, and the Israeli government.
The
Fund also actively participates in various children and youth-oriented
programs, in human rights, public relations for Israel, projects
that counter anti-Semitism and various athletic programs.
Michael
Cherney is also the director of The
Jerusalem Summit, an Israel based advocacy organization
that brings together Evangelicals, neoconservatives, and hardline
pro Israel leaders from across the globe in an effort to shape
the debate over the status of Palestine, radical Islam, Islamic
Apartheid and what its members view as the "relativism"
of the West.
The
establishment of Beilinson Hospital in 1936 was an important
milestone in the development of the Jewish Settlement in the
Land of Israel. The new hospital was intended to serve the pioneers
in the towns in the Judah and Sharon regions. The Hasharon Hospital
was founded in 1942 with the increase in the needs for medical
services.
In
January 1996 Beilinson and Hasharon hospitals merged to form
Rabin Medical Center, the largest and leading medical complex
in Israel, named in memory of Israel's late prime minister,
Yitzhak Rabin.
Rabin Medical Center has throughout the years served as a model
for new standards in medical treatment. It is a leader in technology
and science while maintaining the highest standards of quality
care with attention to the personal touch towards patients and
their families.
In 1991, Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel, the
largest and most advanced children's hospital in the Middle
East, opened on Beilinson Campus.
Throughout
its history Beilinson Hospital has been committed to national
and international humanitarian needs. It played an important
role in the treatment of immigrants from the former Soviet Union
and Ethiopia, many of whom came directly from the airport to
the hospital, and it has sent numerous medical teams to countries
in distress. In 1986, the city of Chernobyl in the former Soviet
Union experienced the most severe nuclear leakage in history.
Beilinson Hospital was among the first facilities to provide
help for the radiation victims. Furthermore, starting with the
events of 1936-1939, physicians at Beilinson Hospital have treated
victims of terror and war, be they Jews, Arabs, Israelis or
foreigners. It continues to serve as the medical backbone for
the Israel Defense Forces and treating wartime and terror-induced
injuries with the highest quality of care.
